IcFEM Gap Programme Blog

The IcFEM-Mission has now produced a blog for the gap programme. You can be updated of what our students/volunteers are taking part in. We are aiming to inform people what the Gap Programme is all about and to give future gap students/volunteers an insight of what is involved in a gap year.

Beth: Hooray! I am the first student to post an entry. I am not strictly a gap student, but I have spent just over five weeks here between my first and last years of sixth form. The idea of coming to Kimilili started off as something to do over the holiday instead of just sitting around, but it turned into one of the most exciting and spiritual experiences of my life! As my first time away from home for more than a week, I was nervous about coming, but I arrived, and found a family willing to accept me as a member. This includes both the family I am staying with and the mission staff and wider community. I have seen and experienced more things than I had ever though possible, and this can range from the sublime to the ridiculous! (People riding bicycles with sofas tied to the back, to riding through the contryside at 1 in the morning on a bus, getting stuck in potholes the size of ponds) As I have learned, anything is possible in Africa. The most important thing to have made my trip what it is are the people. Everyone is so welcoming, kind, and respectful, and ready to help you out whenever you need it. I have made lasting friendships that I am sure will last for a long time to come, or at least until I come back again! I want everybody to know what a special place Kenya is, and how wonderful the people are. I would recommend The programme to any young person who is open, kind, outgoing, and willing to work. Thanks again to everyone who has made my trip so fantastic.

Love
Beth
